School Board Election November 5

There are no city offices on the ballot this year, but Minnetonka and Westonka school boards both have elections. This might mean that your election location is different than in years with city/state/county/federal offices. Get complete information on the school board elections taking place this Tuesday, November 5, 7am-8pm.

City Seeks LMCC Representative

The City Council is seeking interested residents for the volunteer position to serve on the Lake Minnetonka Communications Commission (LMCC) board. The LMCC oversees the cable franchise and the local public access television studio. All meetings are held the third Tuesday of the month, with the full committee meeting quarterly and the executive committee meeting eight times per year. Smithtown Trail Update

Work continues on the Smithtown Trail project. The contractor has begun to pour concrete for the sidewalk. Once poured, please refrain from using the sidewalk for 7 days to allow the concrete to cure. Truth-in-Taxation Hearing

The Shorewood City Council, at its August 26th meeting, adopted a preliminary property tax levy for 2014 that raises the city portion of the property tax by 3%. The 2014 proposed levy of $4,906,218 is $142,899 higher than the 2013 levy of $4,763,319. The proposed 2014 budget is available for inspection at City Hall during normal business hours, or on our web site,

A Truth-In-Taxation public hearing is Monday, December 2, at 7 pm, at Shorewood City Hall, 5755 Country Club Road. Staff will present information regarding the budget, property tax levy, and the property tax impact on a variety of property types
and values. Residents are encouraged to contact Finance Director Bruce DeJong at 952.960.7903 with questions or comments on the proposed budget and tax levy.

Report Community Public Works Issues

The City is testing an online form to report area issues such as mowing and park concerns, potholes and other street issues, drainage problems, and other public works concerns. Please use our new online system to report these and related issues. You are also encouraged to submit feedback on the online report system.

Met Council Sewer Main Project

The major project to construct a second sewer force main is currently in full-swing in Shorewood and Greenwood east of Excelsior. As fall approaches, the project moves into Excelsior. Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) is hosting walk-in question periods during the construction period on Wednesdays, 5:30-7:30 pm at their office building on the southeast corner of Vine Hill Rd and Hwy 7. The city is collection toys for ResourceWest and food for ICA foodshelf through Tuesday, December 10. Please bring your new toy or food product to city hall between regular business hours.
