City Government
The City of Shorewood, from what had been a part of Excelsior Township, was organized as a Village in 1956 and became a statutory City in 1974.
The Council
The City Council consists of the Mayor and four Council members. Council members are elected for four year terms. The Mayor term is elected at large for a two year term. The City Council sets policy and overall direction for the City. The City Council also appoints a City Administrator who is responsible for running the day to day operations of the City.
Commissions and Committees
The City's Boards and Commissions provide an opportunity for citizen participation in issues concerning the well-being of the City and its residents. The Shorewood City Council places a high value on the comments and recommendations received from citizens on the various boards and commissions.
City Staff
The City Staff, under the direction of the City Administrator carries out Council directions and provides day-to-day City services.
